Nicolas De Stael

Nicolas De Stael was born in Russia in 1914, and later studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He travelled widely and settled in Paris before the war, moving to Nice later. It was here he began abstract painting, using blocks of thick paint varying the colour and texture. He sadly committed suicide in 1955.
