Edward Hopper
was born in the USA in 1882 and is recognized as a major realist painter
of the twentieth century. He studied at the New York School of Art. The
influence of the French Impressionists infiltrates his composition and his
focus on light effects and social scenes. He utilized the "typically
American subject matter" such as hotel rooms, gasoline stations and café
bars at night. He died in the USA in 1967.
