Born in 1905 to respectable middle-class parents in the small seaside town of Rye in Sussex, Burra was one of the most eccentric figures in British art. He rebelled against his background by devoting his life to art, specialising in low-life and squalid subjects which he depicted with genuine warmth and humour, and a fine eye for detail. He travelled constantly and with tremendous zeal in search of new subjects. In the late 1930's his style changed to focus on bizarre and dream like images, and he exhibited at this time with the English Surrealists. Burra achieved considerable success in his lifetime, and died in 1976. The Snack Bar Sizes available are below | |||||||||||||||||||||||
