Profile:
Born in Melbourne in 1930, Robert Wade
has won international recognition and honours for his water-colours.
Since starting to paint seriously in 1977, his work has received
79 awards, both in Australia and overseas, including such major
awards as the Cornelissen Award of the Royal Institute of Painters
in Water-colours (London 1983), Clay Kent "Best In Show" Medal
of the International Society of Marine Painters (Washington
DC., 1985), and twice winning coveted awards of the famous
Salmagundi Club (New York, 1984 and 1987).
In addition, Robert Wade has been voted Australian Artist of the Year on three
consecutive occasions. His other achievements include being the only Australian
ever to receive an Honorary Membership of the Royal Institute of Painters in
Water-colours, and being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. A water-colour
commissioned by Australia Post in 1984 was reproduced on the Australian Aerogramme
to mark the International Philatelic Exhibition.
One of Australia's most travelled artists, Robert Wade has lectured, written
numerous articles for Australian and overseas art magazines, conducted international
workshops, judged major art awards and exhibited with the world's most distinguished
water-colour societies. In 1986 he was honoured with Life Membership of the Old
Water-colour Society's Club (Australian Branch) and received an "Advance Australia" award
for his outstanding contribution to Australian water-colour. |
