Charles James Adams was a landscape painter who was a pupil of W. Pilsbury. He lived and worked in London, Leicester and Surrey, and also studied at the Leicester School of Art. Adams made a number of lithographs early in his career and painted some watercolours, but the bulk of his work is in oil. He also painted animals, history and genre subjects. Adams exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1882 (37 works), Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham (27 works), Dudley Gallery (71 works), Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (37 works), Manchester City Gallery (10 works), Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery (3 works) Royal Society of British Artists (8 works), Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (30 works) and The Royal Institute of Oil Painters (9 works).
